Grand Lake, Colo. - Eight members of the Saint Francis women's lacrosse team were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll on Wednesdy.
To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. In total, the IWLCA honored 388 student-athletes from 99 different institutions. Only Brown, Elon, Stanford, Sacred Heart and Yale placed more members on the team than Saint Francis.
Represented on the list from Saint Francis were seniors Tori O'Brien,
Sydney Shearer (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown),
Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus),
Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air), Anai Flanagan and
Grace Smith (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) and juniors
Sydney Rowan (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) and Jess Mazzur.
"I am proud of these eight student-athletes as this is a testament to the work they put in the classroom," said head coach
Kara Concheck. "I am happy to have a group of upperclassmen that represent the program in a first-class manner."
Additionally, the Red Flash were one of 310 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA to be named IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2016-17 academic year. To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
