Red Flash Finish Second in the New England Catholic Invite

Chestnut Hill, Mass.- Saint Francis swimming placed second in the New England Catholic Invite by .50 of a point topping Fairfield University 588-587.50. The Red Flash trailed only event host and winner Boston College. Additionally, Saint Francis went 5-1 in the dual meet section of the tournament beating Fairfield, Providence, Holy Cross, Assumption and Merrimack. 

Individual Results

The quartet of Urska Medvesek (Maribor, Slovenia/Gymnasium Maribor), Mackenzie Lawson (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School), Annabelle McCullough (Mercersburg, PA./James Buchanan High School) and Chloe Clemens (Chesterfield, Va. /Cosby High School) placed fourth (1:52.53) in the 200 Medley Relay.

In the 400 IM, Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) came within 0.20 seconds of breaking the NECI record as she finished with a time of 4:36.26 and a gold medal placement. The closest competitor was four seconds behind the swift Quon.

Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's) set another NECI record as she shattered the previous mark for the 100 Butterfly. Bowman shot through the water like an arrow to establish the new record of 56.34 seconds beating the previous standard by a second and a half. She won first place and 20 points for the Red Flash. 

Camille Nguyen (Mason, Ohio/Mason) took home 16th place (2:02.35) in the 200 Freestyle.

Mackenzie Lawson (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) grabbed second place (1:07.79) in the 100 Breaststroke.

Amelia Laudenbach (Kambah, Australia/Trinity Christian School) earned sixth place (1:02.12) in the 100 Backstroke.

Nguyen finished sixth (11:12.34) in the 1000 Freestyle.

In the 200 Backstroke, Quon placed third (2:08.78).

Bowman, in the 100 Freestyle, continued her impressive swimming with another first place finish (53.11). Her time was only 0.9 seconds away from tying Katie Lafferty's (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) NECI record in the event.

Mackenzie Lawson (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) finished with bronze (2:30.95) in the 200 Breaststroke.

In the 200 Butterfly, Annabelle McCullough (Mercersburg, PA./James Buchanan High School) finished fifth (2:11.37).

The foursome of Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol), Rebecca Pendleton (Maple Glen, PA/Upper Dublin High Schhol), Katelyn O'Connor (Torrance, Calif./South High) and Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's) combined to finish third (3:40.15) in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
