Men’s Tennis Battles FDU, Wagner In NEC Matchups

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Men's Tennis team continues NEC play this weekend with matchups against Fairleigh Dickinson and Wagner.  The Red Flash battles the Knights on Saturday at 6 p.m. and the Seahawks on Sunday at 12 p.m. 
 
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach Rob Castille, is 4-9 overall and 2-0 in the NEC.  Saint Francis earned a 5-2 win over Sacred Heart last week. 
 
Saint Francis dropped the doubles point against the Pioneers, despite a win at No. 3 by Eduardo Garcia (Toluca, Mexico/Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico) and Charles Morkel (Cape Town, South Africa/Paul Roos Gymnasium), but bounced back to win five singles matches.  SFU picked up singles wins from Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) at No. 1, Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) at No. 2, Sebastian Pinos (Quito, Ecuador/Compuinformatica) at No. 3, Morkel at No. 4 and Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) at No. 6.  Suntar earned a win in his first match this season.
 
Foo-Kune and Luna are tied for the team-lead with seven singles wins this Spring.  Luna is 7-6, with all of his wins coming at No. 1, while Foo-Kune is 7-5, with all of his victories coming at No. 2.  Pinos has five dual match wins, with four at No. 3, while Garcia has three wins, two at No. 5. 
 
In doubles, Luna and Pinos are 7-6 at No. 2.  Foo-Kune and Suntar and Garcia and Morkel each paired up last week for the first time this season.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson is 1-11 overall, with an 0-1 mark in the NEC.  FDU's win came over Howard on March 12.  Last week, the Knights fell 6-1 against Bryant and 7-0 at Drexel.  Maciej Autuch leads the Knights with five dual-match wins, with a 2-0 mark at No. 2.  Niclas Pietsch has three ins at No. 1.  Moric Budinszky and Pietsch own four wins at No. 1 doubles.
 
Wagner is 6-5 overall, including 1-0 in the NEC.  The Seahawks own wins over Rider, Hofstra, Siena, Lafayette, Saint Peter's and St. Francis Brooklyn.  Wagner defeated the Terriers, 5-2, in its NEC opener last weekend.  The Seahawks will play Concordia on Friday before battling the Red Flash on Sunday.  Dylan Walters is 6-5 in dual matches, with two wins at No. 1, while Charlton Boyd is 10-1, playing mostly at No. 6.  Eric Poland and Walters are 5-3 at No. 2 doubles.
