LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis swimming team continued a strong start to the 2016-17 season with a dominating 164-58 win over LIU Brooklyn on Saturday at the Stokes Natatorium. The Red Flash earned first-place finishes in 13 of 14 events, including setting a pool record in the 800-yard Freestyle Relay. Saint Francis improved to 7-2 in dual meets and is now 1-0 in the NEC, while LIU Brooklyn dropped to 0-2 overall and in conference meets.

Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club), Quon and Lafferty recorded a time of 7:52.89, almost 37 seconds ahead of the second-place team. That time topped the previous pool record, 7:59.11, set by Ford, Demjanenko, Heintz and Yttring in 2010 against Mount St. Mary's.

In the 1000-yard Freestyle, Karell posted a time of 10:47.17, her top time of the season, for a first-place finish. Junior
Kasey Marks (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) came in second, with a time of 11:31.42, while sophomore
Marrissa Walters (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) placed third, with a time of 11:57.46.Â

Karell also earned wins in the 200-yard Butterfly and 200-yard Breaststroke events.Â

In the 200-yard Butterfly, Karell posted a career-best and the 8th-best time in program history, with a pace of 2:10.50. Sophomore
Rory O'Dell (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) was second, with a time of 2:17.02, while freshman
Meaghan Saettel (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) was third, with a time of 2:18.94.

The Sweden native claimed first place in the 200-yard Breaststroke, with a time of 2:27.57.

Quon continued an impressive freshman season with wins in the 200-yard Freestyle and 200-yard Backstroke.

The freshman posted a time of 1:56.12 to place first in the 200-yard Freestyle. Freshmen
Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's) and
Emily Graziano (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) placed second and third, respectively. Bowman had a time of 1:57.56, while Graziano had a time of 2:01.72.

Later in the meet, Quon recorded a time of 2:10.13 to win the 200-yard Backstroke.Â

Bowman earned her own first place finish in the 100-yard Butterfly, with a time of 57.76, good for the ninth-best time in program history.Â

Lafferty picked up two individual wins in the meet. She recorded a season-best time of 24.06 in the 50-yard Freestyle and won the 100-yard Freestyle, with a time of 53.74. McLean finished third in the 50-yard Freestyle, with a time of 24.93, while Bowman came in fourth, with a time of 24.97.
McLean also finished first in the 500-yard Freestyle, with a time of 5:20.50.Â

In another strong performance by a freshman, Baur won the 100-yard Backstroke. She posted a time of 59.84. Tiberino placed second in the event, with a time of 1:02.24.

Fellow rookie
Kristen Toth (Silver Spring, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) earned a win in the 200-yard IM, with a time of 2:16.61.

In the 100-yard Breaststroke, O'Neill placed second, with a time of 1:07.88, while Crumm finished third, with a pace of 1:09.04. Toth came in fourth, with a time of 1:10.97.

The Red Flash returns to action on November 12 at Wagner for a 1 p.m. meet against another NEC opponent.
