LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis swimming team travels to the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday for the Western PA Invitational. The meet begins at 11 a.m. It is the final meet of the regular season for the Red Flash before it heads to the NEC Championships on February 15-18.
The Western PA Invitational will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, which is available through WatchESPN.com. The Red Flash will compete against California University (PA), Carnegie Mellon, Clarion, Duquesne and Pitt. The invitational will be scored in a dual meet format.

Rory Coleman, is 9-5 in dual meets this season. SFU earned a 166-89 win over Siena last Saturday.
Junior
Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) earned three individual wins against Siena, with top times in the 1000-yard Freestyle (10:50.33), 100-yard Freestyle (53.33) and 100-yard Butterfly (58.97). For her efforts, Lafferty was named CollegeSwimming.com NEC Swimmer of the Week.
In her final home meet in a Red Flash uniform, senior
Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) won the 50-yard Freestyle (24.73) and 500-yard Freestyle (5:21.78).
Freshmen accounted for six event wins last Saturday.
Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) finished first in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:58.89) and 200-yard IM (2:13.47), while
Aimee Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) won the 100-yard Backstroke (59.95) and 200-yard Backstroke (2:15.01).
Erin O'Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) claimed first place in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:07.06) and 200-yard Breaststroke (2:28.35).
Junior
Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club) won the 200-yard Butterfly, with a time of 2:10.28.
The Red Flash earned first place in both relay events. In the 200-yard Medley Relay, Baur, O'Neill, McLean and Quon combined for a winning time of 1:49.84. The team of Baur, Lafferty, Karell and McLean won the 400-yard Freestyle, with a pace of 3:44.88.
Quon owns Top 10 NEC times in five different event this year, including the 500 Freestyle (8th, 5:08.49), 1000 Freestyle (2nd, 10:38.86), 200 Backstroke (T-6th, 2:06.85), 200 IM (6th, 2:09.13) and 400 IM (6th, 4:34.56).
Karell has four Top 10 NEC times this season, including the 1000 Freestyle (9th, 10:47.17), 200 Breaststroke (10th, 2:26.90), 200 Butterfly (8th, 2:10.28) and 400 IM (T-9th, 4:39.24) events.
Lafferty owns Top 10 NEC Times in the 50 Freestyle (6th, 23.86) and 200 Freestyle (9th, 1:55.08), while Baur has the 10th-best time in the 100 Backstroke (58.96) and McLean is tied with Karell for the ninth-best time in the 400 IM (4:39.24). Freshman
Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's) has the NEC's ninth-best time in the 100 Butterfly (57.76).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Pitt is 4-6 in dual meets this season after falling 169-125 against Ohio State and 154-146 against Akron last Saturday. Junior Lina Rathsack owns Pitt's top time this season in four events, including the 100 Breaststroke (59.97), 200 Breaststroke (2:10.08), 100 Butterfly (54.14) and 200 IM (1:59.29). Junior Amanda Richey holds the Panthers' top time in the 500 Freestyle (4:44.73), 1000 Freestyle (9:43.79), 1650 Freestyle (16:04.25) and 400 IM (4:15.18).
California University is 6-2 in dual meets, while Carnegie Mellon is 5-2 and Clarion is 3-3. Duquesne is 9-2 in dual meets and earned a 147-107 win over Saint Francis on Saturday, January 14.
