Art Martynuska was the icon of Saint Francis athletics from 1969-1984 when he served as head football coach, assistant basketball coach, and director of athletics, while also serving as director and assistant director of counseling for the University.

A native of nearby Lilly, and a former coach at Lilly-Washington, Penn Cambria and Bishop Carroll High Schools, Mr. Martynuska oversaw the resurrection of the Red Flash football program in 1969. The football program had folded following the 1953 season, but under the guidance of Mr. Martynuska returned to prominence at Saint Francis. The school’s all-time wins leader (45) led the program from a club team to varsity status when the Red Flash became a Division III program in 1978, which established a base for growth that would eventually lead to Division I status. As head coach, he led the 1971 and 1974 Red Flash football team to 7-1 records. Mr. Martynuska served as director and assistant director of counseling from 1971-91, where his ability to relate to young adults further enhanced his relationship with the students of Saint Francis. Mr. Martynuska is being enshrined posthumously after passing away on Dec. 24, 2006

Saint Francis College is proud to honor Art Martynuska with induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame on this date, Saturday, November 17, 2007.
