Saint Francis University Athletics Hall of Fame
Bob Moore's journey to becoming the "Architect of the Golden Era" and his profound love for Saint Francis began in his youth. His passion for the university was ignited by his experiences selling popcorn at Saint Francis games at the Jaffa Mosque and observing the likes of Ed Winters and Calvin Fowler in junior high. This early connection led the Altoona, Pennsylvania native to attend Saint Francis and play on the men's tennis team for three years.
A 1969 graduate of Saint Francis, Moore was the public address announcer for the men's basketball team after graduating. He would then begin his long and illustrious career in public relations as one of the first sports information directors at the college. His college roommate, former Red Flash men's basketball player Dave Magarity, asked Moore for his assistance promoting the men's basketball program when Magarity became an assistant coach during Pete Lonergan's first season as head coach.
His time working with the Saint Francis men's basketball team was the first of several stops where Moore did not have blueprints put in front of him. He innovatively learned to promote his teams with the freedom and imagination that he saw fit, as he describes it. This unique approach, a testament to his creative prowess, would carry him through his professional career, including Saint Francis and Drexel as a SID and the professional ranks with the Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars in the USFL and the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL, leaving a lasting impression.
He returned to his Saint Francis roots, playing a pivotal role in creating the Golden Era wing of the Saint Francis Hall of Fame in 2012 as the chairman of the committee. Moore's commitment to the university is further exemplified by his ongoing service on the Athletic Hall of Fame committee and his role as the emcee at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. His contributions and donations continue to shape the legacy of Saint Francis.
