Saint Francis University Athletics Hall of Fame
There is only one first time, and Stacy Alexander has the privilege of being on the very first Saint Francis women’s basketball team that won a Northeast Conference title and earned the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
A native of Portage, Pa., and a three-year team captain, Ms. Alexander helped build the women’s basketball program into a small-school Division I basketball dynasty by winning one NEC title as a player and then serving as an assistant coach for two more. She was a senior on the first of nine Northeast Conference championship teams in 1995-96.
After a brief professional playing career in Europe, Ms. Alexander returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach and helped lead the squad to back-to-back NEC titles and automatic NCAA Tournament berths, Alexander was a three-time all-NEC performer, including a pair of first team selections. She was named the NEC Co-Player-of-the-Year during her junior season, and received the Wallace Athletic Award as the school’s Most Outstanding Senior Student-Athlete in 1996.
One of the most prolific outside shooters in NEC history, she is the school’s all-time leader in 3-point field goals made (235) and 3-point field goals attempted (614). She is also fifth on the school’s all-time scoring list (1,566), a list in which she was second on when she graduated, fourth in career assists (433), sixth in steals (195), and fifth in free throws made (329).
In leading the women’s basketball program to its first-ever NEC title and NCAA Tournament appearance, Ms. Alexander ranked second in the conference in scoring (16.2 ppg), 3-point FG percentage (.349) and free throw percentage (.834), and fourth in assists (4.5 apg).
Saint Francis University is proud to honor Stacy Alexander with induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame on this date, Saturday, November 17, 2007.
