Bob Hahn arrived at Saint Francis in 1970, taking over as professional at Immergrun Golf Course after working at the Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown and the Blairmont Country Club in Hollidaysburg. The native of Johnstown immediately assumed the daunting task of rebuilding Immergrun.

“I put my heart and soul into the golf course “said Mr. Hahn. “When I first came here, I saw more bird than people. It was virgin country.”

From that virgin country, Mr. Hahn transformed the Donald Ross designed course into one of the true gems among Western Pennsylvania golf courses.

He has also served as golf coach at the University for the last 31 years, grooming the games of several outstanding players, including two-time Northeast Conference champion Tom Crist, Turano Award winner John Handrigan and 1983 U.S. Open participant Alan Rosensteel. Throughout his coaching tenure, Saint Francis has always ranked among the top teams within the Northeast Conference.

Mr. Hahn has also been instrumental in the development of the Saint Francis Stokes Club, the booster organization for Red Flash athletics. He has spearheaded the fundraising efforts of the Stokes Club since its infancy. It is through Mr. Hahn’s efforts that the organization has hosted its annual golf tournament at some of the premier courses in the Northeast. The tournament, which Mr. Hahn has coordinated for the last 16 years, remains one of the Stokes Club’s primary fundraising ventures.

Saint Francis College is proud to honor Bob Hahn with induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame on this date, Friday, July 27, 2001.
