One of the most electrifying performers in Saint Francis basketball history, Joe Aston was the prototype of the small forward of a later era.  At 6’5” he could slash his way to the basket or pull up for a jump shot.  Working at guard and forward on what were perhaps the greatest all-around teams in school history, Aston was a player whose presence was so sturdy and reliable it allowed others around him to be better.

As much a symbol of the 1958 and 1959 Frankie seasons as any team member, it was not beneath him to move into the pivot and take on a big man’s responsibilities.

Aston’s numbers are indeed solid, as he averaged in double figures for three consecutive years. Rebounding was his true forte and he ranked in the school’s top ten in that category and fifth in all-time average with 11.7 a game at the time of his induction.
