Harry Felty has been a winner on every level

After leading Altoona Catholic to the 1937 Pennsylvania Catholic High School state basketball championship, he enrolled at Saint Francis and was a member of the men’s basketball team from 1938-1941. In his junior and senior years, he served as team captain and was the leading scorer under head coach Francis Salony. He capped off his career by being named to the All-Pennsylvania Teachers College Team.

In 1941, baseball was reinstated at the College and Harry joined the teams as a pitcher for head coach and Franciscan friar. Father Terrence Burns, T.O.R. upon graduation. Felty played semi-professional and professional basketball, most notably as a member of the Dayton entry in the World Championship Basketball Tournament at Chicago Stadium.

His contributions to Saint Francis College athletics continued long after his playing days were over. He served an 11-year tenure as president of the Immergrun Golf Club, where he was given the title “Director Emeritus” in 1983, and was driving force in 1972 in the establishment of the Stokes Club, which still serves as the Colleges major athletic fund-raising group. In 1987, he was appointed to the President’s Cabinet.

Saint Francis College is proud to honor Harry Felty with induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame on this date, Saturday, November 16, 1996.
