Frankie Puschauver was a contributor from the moment he stepped on the court at Saint Francis and it could never be said he suffered from underclassman jitters.  It was an impressive beginning for a player who would finish his college career having appeared in six NIT games when it was the premier post-season tournament in the country.

Standing at most 6’2”, he was a shooter and was said to have a shot from every angle of the floor. But he was known to rely just as much on his drive to the basket. Moreover, it wasn’t beneath him to mix it up inside and fight for any loose ball.  Indeed, as late as 2012 he still ranked 13th in rebounding in school history.

Puschauver was expected to carry a major portion of the offensive load when the great Maurice Stokes departed, and he responded to average 18 points per game in 1955-56 and can still brag that he ranked 11th all-time in scoring at the time of his induction into the school’s athletic hall of fame.
